ahh, yangshuo. that wonderous land of mystic fogs, electric green, jutting hills, and more foreigners than you would care to shake a stick at. i went there for national day holiday, and boy howdy was it swamped. not only were the foreign tourists out, hitting the great destination ranked time and again by such sources as fodors and lonely planet, but the chinese tourists were on their fall holiday, and added a good extra exponential to that crowd. it was a nice outing though, and the first time that i'd had western treats such as coffee or hamburgers in quite a while. i also befriended some chinese students on the way, and we hung out a lot more than i did with any of the other foreigners. this drastically helped my chinese, and i'm still thankful to my buddy star for helping me out.
